Creating a Balance

Keeping Your Physical and Mental Health Hand-in-Hand

In order to try to create a healthy balance between physical and mental health, you need to prioritize your mental state over your physical state. Yes, physical exercise and eating well is a good way to live your life, but letting physical health overpower your mental health is never the answer.

To live your best life, you can prioritize building relationships with people you care about and make sure to take time for yourself as well. From ushealthline.com, there are many ways to change your mental state for the better, even from the comfort of your own home.

  • Connect with others
    • Good relationships are important for your mental wellbeing. They can:
      • help you to build a sense of belonging and self-worth
      • give you an opportunity to share positive experiences
      • provide emotional support and allow you to support others
  • Be active and get outside
    • Being active is not only great for your physical health and fitness. Evidence also shows it can also improve your mental wellbeing by:
      • raising your self-esteem
      • helping you to set goals or challenges and achieve them
      • exercising causes chemical changes in your brain which can help to positively change your mood
  • Make time for rest
    •  While what constitutes “rest” may vary from person to person, it generally means giving your mind and body the opportunity to unwind and restore.

These, among other strategies, can help you take time to focus on your mental health as well as find simple ways to create a balance.
